This is my Tobacco Fairy. Who knew tobacco flowers were so pretty? She isn’t quite the same as my original planning sketch but I like to think that this painting has its own character. Perhaps a little more upbeat?
I always find it super annoying when the thing you paint looks awful when you scan it. It has always been a bit of a sore subject with me. The painting above is case in point. I don’t know if its the lighting in the scanner or the lighting out of the scanner but it feels as though something is lost.
This could just be normal artistic paranoia but it will always remain one of my hang ups.
She’s only in her first iteration but I’m liking the chilled-outness of Nightshade.
I’m especially pleased with how her legs have come out. Come out? Well I suppose they do sprout out her hips. Any who, time for a cup of tea and a procrastination about what I do next!
As predicted, I changed the design of Wino Fairy. I thought she looked too cherub like, too jolly. A true wino fairy would look disheveled, out of it and well…pissed.
Once this delightful creature is finished I’ll get a better scan up on here for you to see.
I love my current sketchbook. It is the only place I can allow myself to draw crap things that never have to see the light of day and develop ideas.
Wino is still in her early phase of crap/development but so far so good. I’ll have to think of an epic backstory for her as I scribble.
After weeks of painting pretty fairies, it feels like the right time to start my fares of Vice.
I’m a huge fan of both Brian Froud and Cicely Barker, two excellent fairies conasures and this series is going to be part homage part rebellion against the type of fairies they create/created.
I can relate to my first vice fairy. She knows what she is supposed to be; delicate, pure, kind but selfishness, addiction and greed get in the way. The tobacco plant was never going to make the cut in the flower fairy club. So,ostracised by her own actions, the tobacco fairy sits, puffs and watches others do what was expected of her.
Perhaps as I create more of these you will find a vice fairy that speaks to you and your fears and percived weaknesses too.
For anyone who play Final Fantasy 14, you may already be aware that back in June/July Square Enix ran a competition for people to design armor for a tank class character. Well, alas I didn’t make the cut. But on the plus side, I can now post my design up here. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that!
Congrats to the people that did make the finalists. If you want to check out the awesome designs that did make the cut they can be found here.
Evening Rose is a fairy with a bad attitude but a warm heart…when no one is looking.
This is Foxglove. She is a super lazy fairy. Her favourite past time is sitting on flowers and eating a blob of blackberry very slowly whilst judging the flying style of passing fairies. Everyone now and then she dozes off and tumbles off her perch. She generally tries to pick spots to sit with soft dandelion puffs to fall into.. just in case.
